وَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ كِتَـٰبٌ مِّنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ وَكَانُوا۟ مِن قَبْلُ يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم مَّا عَرَفُوا۟ كَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦۚ فَلَعْنَةُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ﴿سورة البقرة آية ٨٩﴾.

[2:89] Basmeih

Dan ketika datang kepada mereka sebuah Kitab dari Allah (Al Quran), yang mengesahkan apa yang ada pada mereka (Kitab Taurat), sedang mereka sebelum itu sentiasa memohon (kepada Allah) kemenangan atas kaum kafir musyrik (dengan kedatangan seorang Nabi pembawa Kitab itu). Setelah datang kepada mereka apa yang mereka sedia mengetahui kebenarannya (Nabi Muhammad dan Al Quran), mereka mengingkarinya; maka (dengan yang demikian), laknat Allah menimpa orang-orang yang kafir ingkar itu.

[2:89] Tafsir Jalalayn

(Dan tatkala datang kepada mereka Alquran dari Allah yang membenarkan apa yang ada pada mereka) yakni Taurat (padahal sebelumnya mereka) maksudnya sebelum datangnya Alquran itu (memohon pertolongan) agar beroleh kemenangan (atas orang-orang yang kafir) dengan mengucapkan, "Ya Allah, tolonglah kami dengan nabi yang akan dibangkitkan di akhir zaman." (Maka setelah datang kepada mereka apa yang telah mereka ketahui) yaitu berupa kebenaran dengan diutusnya Nabi Muhammad itu (mereka lalu ingkar kepadanya) disebabkan kedengkian dan takut kehilangan pengaruh. Jawaban bagi 'lammaa' atau 'tatkala' yang pertama, ditunjukkan oleh jawaban 'lammaa' yang kedua (maka laknat Allahlah atas orang-orang yang kafir itu).

[2:89] Quraish Shihab

Dan ketika rasul Kami datang dengan membawa al-Qur'ân--yaitu kitab yang diturunkan Allah untuk membenarkan Tawrât yang diturunkan kepada mereka sebelumnya--sementara mereka mengetahui, melalui Tawrât, kebenaran yang ada dalam al-Qur'ân, mereka mengingkarinya dengan sikap membangkang dan iri karena rasul yang datang kepada mereka bukan dari bangsa mereka, Banû Isrâ'îl. Padahal sebelumnya, jika terjadi bentrokan dengan orang-orang musyrik dalam peperangan atau perkelahian, mereka mengatakan bahwa Allah akan menolong mereka dengan mengutus nabi terakhir yang disebut sebagai kabar gembira dalam kitab mereka. Sifat-sifatnya sesuai dengan sifat-sifat Muhammad. Ketahuilah bahwa laknat Allah akan menimpa orang-orang yang membangkang dan ingkar seperti mereka.

[2:89] Bahasa Indonesia

Dan setelah datang kepada mereka Al Quran dari Allah yang membenarkan apa yang ada pada mereka, padahal sebelumnya mereka biasa memohon (kedatangan Nabi) untuk mendapat kemenangan atas orang-orang kafir, maka setelah datang kepada mereka apa yang telah mereka ketahui, mereka lalu ingkar kepadanya. Maka laknat Allah-lah atas orang-orang yang ingkar itu.

Sahih International: And when there came to them a Book from Allah confirming that which was with them - although before they used to pray for victory against those who disbelieved - but [then] when there came to them that which they recognized, they disbelieved in it; so the curse of Allah will be upon the disbelievers.

Pickthall: And when there cometh unto them a scripture from Allah, confirming that in their possession - though before that they were asking for a signal triumph over those who disbelieved - and when there cometh unto them that which they know (to be the truth) they disbelieve therein. The curse of Allah is on disbelievers.

Yusuf Ali: And when there comes to them a Book from Allah, confirming what is with them,- although from of old they had prayed for victory against those without Faith,- when there comes to them that which they (should) have recognised, they refuse to believe in it but the curse of Allah is on those without Faith.

Shakir: And when there came to them a Book from Allah verifying that which they have, and aforetime they used to pray for victory against those who disbelieve, but when there came to them (Prophet) that which they did not recognize, they disbelieved in him; so Allah's curse is on the unbelievers.

Muhammad Sarwar: When a Book came to them from God which confirms what is with them (the fact of truthfulness of the Prophet Muhammad in their Scripture), and, despite the fact that they had been praying for victory over the disbelievers (by the help of the truthful Prophet), they refuse to accept this book, even though they know it (to be the Truth). May God condemn those who hide the Truth!

Mohsin Khan: And when there came to them (the Jews), a Book (this Quran) from Allah confirming what is with them [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)], although aforetime they had invoked Allah (for coming of Muhammad Peace be upon him ) in order to gain victory over those who disbelieved, then when there came to them that which they had recognised, they disbelieved in it. So let the Curse of Allah be on the disbelievers.

Arberry: When there came to them a Book from God, confirming what was with them -- and they aforetimes prayed for victory over the unbelievers -- when there came to them that they recognized, they disbelieved in it; and the curse of God is on the unbelievers.
