The triliteral root zāy yā ghayn (ز ي غ) occurs nine times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

  • six times as the form I verb zāgha (زَاغَ)

Verb (form I) - to deviate, to turn away, to swerve

(9:117:17) yazīghudeviatedمِنْ بَعْدِ مَا كَادَ يَزِيغُ قُلُوبُ فَرِيقٍ مِنْهُمْ ثُمَّ تَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ
(33:10:9) zāghatigrew wildإِذْ جَاءُوكُمْ مِنْ فَوْقِكُمْ وَمِنْ أَسْفَلَ مِنْكُمْ وَإِذْ زَاغَتِ الْأَبْصَارُ
(34:12:20) yazighdeviatedوَمَنْ يَزِغْ مِنْهُمْ عَنْ أَمْرِنَا نُذِقْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ السَّعِيرِ
