Chapter (54) sūrat l-qamar (The Moon)

Sahih International: And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence -

Pickthall: And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter,

Yusuf Ali: There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them),

Shakir: And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention--

Muhammad Sarwar: They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom,

Mohsin Khan: And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil),

Arberry: And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent --

Dan sesungguhnya! Telah sampai kepada mereka (dengan perantaraan Al-Quran), sebahagian dari kisah-kisah dan berita (umat-umat yang telah lalu), yang mengandungi perkara-perkara yang cukup untuk mencegah mereka (dari perbuatan kufur itu).
[54:4] Tafsir Jalalayn
(Dan sesungguhnya telah datang kepada mereka beberapa kisah) berita-berita tentang dibinasakan-Nya umat-umat yang telah mendustakan rasul-rasul mereka (yang di dalamnya terdapat cegahan) bagi mereka untuk melakukan hal yang serupa. Lafal Muzdajar adalah Mashdar atau Isim yang menunjukkan arti tempat, sedangkan huruf Dal-nya merupakan pergantian dari Ta Wazan Ifta'ala. Bila dikatakan Izdajartuhu atau Zajartuhu maka artinya, aku mencegahnya dengan keras. Huruf Maa adalah Maushulah atau Maa Maushufah.

Aku bersumpah bahwa berita tentang umat-umat terdahulu dan tentang fakta-fakta alam yang cukup memberi peringatan telah datang kepada orang-orang kafir.
