Chapter (5) sūrat l-māidah (The Table spread with Food)
Sahih International: So for their breaking of the covenant We cursed them and made their hearts hard. They distort words from their [proper] usages and have forgotten a portion of that of which they were reminded. And you will still observe deceit among them, except a few of them. But pardon them and overlook [their misdeeds]. Indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.
Pickthall: And because of their breaking their covenant, We have cursed them and made hard their hearts. They change words from their context and forget a part of that whereof they were admonished. Thou wilt not cease to discover treachery from all save a few of them. But bear with them and pardon them. Lo! Allah loveth the kindly.
Yusuf Ali: But because of their breach of their covenant, We cursed them, and made their hearts grow hard; they change the words from their (right) places and forget a good part of the message that was sent them, nor wilt thou cease to find them- barring a few - ever bent on (new) deceits: but forgive them, and overlook (their misdeeds): for Allah loveth those who are kind.
Shakir: But on account of their breaking their covenant We cursed them and made their hearts hard; they altered the words from their places and they neglected a portion of what they were reminded of; and you shall always discover treachery in them excepting a few of them; so pardon them and turn away; surely Allah loves those who do good (to others).
Muhammad Sarwar: For their disregard of their solemn covenant with God, We condemned the Israelites and made their hearts hard as stone. Now they displace the words of God and have forgotten their share of the guidance that they had received. Still you receive news of the treachery of all but a few of them. Forgive and ignore them. God loves the righteous ones.
Mohsin Khan: So because of their breach of their covenant, We cursed them, and made their hearts grow hard. They change the words from their (right) places and have abandoned a good part of the Message that was sent to them. And you will not cease to discover deceit in them, except a few of them. But forgive them, and overlook (their misdeeds). Verily, Allah loves AlMuhsinun (gooddoers - see V.2:112).
Arberry: So for their breaking their compact We cursed them and made their hearts hard, they perverting words from their meanings; and they have forgotten a portion of that they were reminded of; and thou wilt never cease to light upon some act of treachery on their part, except a few of them. Yet pardon them, and forgive; surely God loves the good-doers.
Maka dengan sebab mereka mencabuli perjanjian setia mereka, Kami laknatkan mereka, dan Kami jadikan hati mereka keras membatu (tidak mahu menerima kebenaran). Mereka sentiasa mengubah Kalimah-kalimah (yang ada di dalam kitab Taurat dengan memutarnya) dari tempat-tempatnya (dan maksudnya) yang sebenar, dan mereka melupakan (meninggalkan) sebahagian dari apa yang diperingatkan mereka mereka dengannya. Dan engkau (wahai Muhammad) sentiasa dapat melihat perbuatan khianat yang mereka lakukan, kecuali sedikit dari mereka (yang tidak berlaku khianat). Oleh itu, maafkanlah mereka (jika mereka sedia bertaubat) dan janganlah dihiraukan, kerana sesungguhnya Allah suka kepada orang-orang yang berusaha supaya baik amalannya.
[5:13] Tafsir Jalalayn
(Maka disebabkan mereka melanggar) maa merupakan tambahan (janji itu, Kami kutuk mereka) artinya Kami jauhkan dari rahmat Kami (dan Kami jadikan hati mereka keras) tak hendak lunak untuk menerima keimanan. (Mereka ubah perkataan-perkataan)yang terdapat dalam Taurat berupa sifat-sifat dan ciri-ciri Muhammad (dari tempat-tempatnya) semula yang ditaruh oleh Allah (dan mereka lupakan) tinggalkan (sebagian dari peringatan-peringatan yang telah disampaikan kepada mereka) dalam Taurat mengenai ketaatan kepada Muhammad. (Dan selalulah kamu) perkataan ditujukan kepada Nabi saw. (melihat) secara jelas (pengkhianatan dari mereka) dengan mengingkari janji dan lain-lain (kecuali sedikit di antara mereka) yang masuk Islam. (Maka maafkanlah mereka itu dan biarkanlah, sesungguhnya Allah menyukai orang-orang yang berbuat baik) ini dimansukh oleh ayat perang.
[5:13] Quraish Shihab
Karena Banû Isrâ'îl telah melanggar janji, maka mereka berhak dilaknat dan dijauhkan dari rahmat Allah. Hati mereka menjadi keras dan tidak dapat menerima kebenaran. Mereka kemudian mulai mengubah arti firman Allah menurut kehendak dan hawa nafsu mereka dan meninggalkan apa yang telah diperintahkan kepada mereka dalam Tawrât. Kamu, Rasulullah, masih akan melihat berbagai bentuk pengkhianatan dan perusakan perjanjian, kecuali sebagian kecil dari mereka yang beriman kepadamu. Mereka tidak akan berkhianat. Maka maafkanlah kesalahan mereka, wahai Rasulullah, ampuni dan berbuat baiklah kepada mereka. Sesungguhnya Allah menyukai orang-orang yang berbuat baik.
[5:13] Bahasa Indonesia
(Tetapi) karena mereka melanggar janjinya, Kami kutuki mereka, dan Kami jadikan hati mereka keras membatu. Mereka suka merubah perkataan (Allah) dari tempat-tempatnya, dan mereka (sengaja) melupakan sebagian dari apa yang mereka telah diperingatkan dengannya, dan kamu (Muhammad) senantiasa akan melihat kekhianatan dari mereka kecuali sedikit diantara mereka (yang tidak berkhianat), maka maafkanlah mereka dan biarkan mereka, sesungguhnya Allah menyukai orang-orang yang berbuat baik.
