وَلَوْلَآ أَن يَكُونَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً لَّجَعَلْنَا لِمَن يَكْفُرُ بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ لِبُيُوتِهِمْ سُقُفًا مِّن فِضَّةٍ وَمَعَارِجَ عَلَيْهَا يَظْهَرُونَ ﴿سورة الزخرف آية ٣٣﴾.

Verse (43:33) - English Translation

Chapter (43) sūrat l-zukh'ruf (The Gold Adornment)

Sahih International: And if it were not that the people would become one community [of disbelievers], We would have made for those who disbelieve in the Most Merciful - for their houses - ceilings and stairways of silver upon which to mount

Pickthall: And were it not that mankind would have become one community, We might well have appointed, for those who disbelieve in the Beneficent, roofs of silver for their houses and stairs (of silver) whereby to mount,

Yusuf Ali: And were it not that (all) men might become of one (evil) way of life, We would provide, for everyone that blasphemes against (Allah) Most Gracious, silver roofs for their houses and (silver) stair-ways on which to go up,

Shakir: And were it not that all people had been a single nation, We would certainly have assigned to those who disbelieve in the Beneficent Allah (to make) of silver the roofs of their houses and the stairs by which they ascend.

Muhammad Sarwar: Were it not for the fear that all people would become one in disbelief, We would have made for the disbelievers in the Beneficent God ceilings out of silver and ladders by which they would climb up,

Mohsin Khan: And were it not that all mankind would have become of one community (all disbelievers, desiring worldly life only), We would have provided for those who disbelieve in the Most Beneficent (Allah), silver roofs for their houses, and elevators (and stair-ways, etc. of silver) whereby they ascend,

Arberry: And were it not that mankind would be one nation, We would have appointed for those who disbelieve in the All-merciful roofs of silver to their houses, and stairs whereon to mount,

[43:33] Tafsir Jalalayn
(Dan sekiranya bukan karena hendak menghindari manusia menjadi umat yang satu) dalam kekafiran (tentulah Kami buatkan bagi orang-orang yang kafir kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Pemurah bagi rumah-rumah mereka) lafal Libuyutihim menjadi Badal dari lafal Liman (loteng-loteng) dapat dibaca Saqfan atau Suqfan keduanya adalah bentuk jamak (dari perak dan juga tangga-tangga) dari perak pula (yang mereka menaikinya) yang dapat mereka naiki untuk mencapai atap rumah-rumah mereka.

Kalau bukan karena Kami tidak menginginkan semua orang menjadi kafir ketika melihat bahwa orang-orang kafir itu mendapat rezeki yang amat luas, tentu Kami akan menjadikan atap dan tangga rumah orang-orang kafir itu terbuat dari perak, karena begitu rendah dan sepelenya dunia bagi Kami.

Dan sekiranya bukan karena hendak menghindari manusia menjadi umat yang satu (dalam kekafiran), tentulah kami buatkan bagi orang-orang yang kafir kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Pemurah loteng-loteng perak bagi rumah mereka dan (juga) tangga-tangga (perak) yang mereka menaikinya.
