Quran Dictionary - ق ف و (SIAP)

The triliteral root qāf fā wāw (ق ف و) occurs five times in the Quran, in two derived forms:

  • once as the form I verb taqfu (تَقْفُ)
  • four times as the form II verb qaffay (قَفَّيْ)

Verb (form I) - to pursue

(17:36:2) taqfupursueوَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ

Verb (form II) - to send, to follow

(2:87:5) waqaffaynāand We followed upوَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ وَقَفَّيْنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ بِالرُّسُلِ
(5:46:1) waqaffaynāAnd We sentوَقَفَّيْنَا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمْ بِعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ مُصَدِّقًا لِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ
(57:27:2) qaffaynāWe sentثُمَّ قَفَّيْنَا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمْ بِرُسُلِنَا
(57:27:6) waqaffaynāand We followedوَقَفَّيْنَا بِعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الْإِنْجِيلَ
