وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ ءَامِنُوا۟ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلنَّاسُ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُۗ أَلَآ إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا يَعْلَمُونَ ﴿سورة البقرة آية ١٣﴾.

Chapter (2) sūrat l-baqarah (The Cow)

Sahih International: And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?" Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not.

Pickthall: And when it is said unto them: believe as the people believe, they say: shall we believe as the foolish believe? are not they indeed the foolish? But they know not.

Yusuf Ali: When it is said to them: "Believe as the others believe:" They say: "Shall we believe as the fools believe?" Nay, of a surety they are the fools, but they do not know.

Shakir: And when it is said to them: Believe as the people believe they say: Shall we believe as the fools believe? Now surely they themselves are the fools, but they do not know.

Muhammad Sarwar: When they are told to believe as everyone else does, they say, "Should we believe as fools do?" In fact, they themselves are fools, but they do not know it.

Mohsin Khan: And when it is said to them (hypocrites): "Believe as the people (followers of Muhammad Peace be upon him , Al-Ansar and Al-Muhajirun) have believed," they say: "Shall we believe as the fools have believed?" Verily, they are the fools, but they know not.

Arberry: When it is said to them, 'Believe as the people believe', they say, 'Shall we believe, as fools believe?' Truly, they are the foolish ones, but they do not know.

Dan apabila dikatakan kepada mereka: "Berimanlah kamu sebagaimana orang-orang itu telah beriman". Mereka menjawab: "Patutkah kami ini beriman sebagaimana berimannya orang-orang bodoh itu?" Ketahuilah! Sesungguhnya merekalah orang-orang yang bodoh, tetapi mereka tidak mengetahui (hakikat yang sebenarnya).

[2:13] Tafsir Jalalayn

(Apabila dikatakan kepada mereka, "Berimanlah kamu sebagaimana orang-orang lain beriman!") yakni sebagaimana berimannya para sahabat Nabi. (Jawab mereka, "Apakah kami akan beriman sebagaimana berimannya orang-orang yang bodoh?") Artinya kami tidak akan melakukan seperti yang dilakukan oleh orang-orang yang bodoh itu. Maka firman Allah menolak ucapan mereka itu: (Ketahuilah, merekalah orang-orang bodoh tetapi mereka tidak tahu) akan hal itu.

Apabila seseorang bermaksud memberi nasihat dan arahan kepada mereka dengan mengatakan, "Terimalah sebagaimana mestinya, hendaknya kalian beriman secara ikhlas sebagaimana iman manusia- manusia sempurna yang telah menyambut seruan akal," orang-orang munafik itu mengejek, mencemooh dan menjawab, "Tidaklah pantas diri kami ini menjadi pengikut orang-orang bodoh dan lemah akal." Maka Allah membalas kecerobohan itu dengan menunjukkan bahwa hanya mereka sajalah orang-orang yang bodoh dan dungu, akan tetapi mereka tidak mengerti secara yakin bahwa kebodohan dan keterbatasan pengetahuan itu hanya ada pada mereka dan dalam diri mereka.

Apabila dikatakan kepada mereka: "Berimanlah kamu sebagaimana orang-orang lain telah beriman". Mereka menjawab: "Akan berimankah kami sebagaimana orang-orang yang bodoh itu telah beriman?" Ingatlah, sesungguhnya merekalah orang-orang yang bodoh; tetapi mereka tidak tahu.
