Chapter (36) sūrat yā sīn
Sahih International: Should I take other than Him [false] deities [while], if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity, their intercession will not avail me at all, nor can they save me?
Pickthall: Shall I take (other) gods in place of Him when, if the Beneficent should wish me any harm, their intercession will avail me naught, nor can they save?
Yusuf Ali: "Shall I take (other) gods besides Him? If (Allah) Most Gracious should intend some adversity for me, of no use whatever will be their intercession for me, nor can they deliver me.
Shakir: What! shall I take besides Him gods whose intercession, If the Beneficent Allah should desire to afflict me with a harm, shall not avail me aught, nor shall they be able to deliver me?
Muhammad Sarwar: Should I worship other gods besides Him? If the Beneficent God was to afflict me with hardship, the intercession of the idols can be of no benefit to me nor could it rescue me from hardship.
Mohsin Khan: "Shall I take besides Him aliha (gods), if the Most Beneficent (Allah) intends me any harm, their intercession will be of no use for me whatsoever, nor can they save me?
Arberry: What, shall I take, apart from Him, gods whose intercession, if the All-merciful desires affliction for me, shall not avail me anything, and who will never deliver me?
"Patutkah aku menyembah beberapa tuhan yang lain dari Allah? (Sudah tentu tidak patut, kerana) jika Allah yang Maha Pemurah hendak menimpakan daku dengan sesuatu bahaya, mereka tidak dapat memberikan sebarang syafaat kepadaku, dan mereka juga tidak dapat menyelamatkan daku.
[36:23] Tafsir Jalalayn
(Mengapa aku akan menjadikan) Istifham atau kata tanya di sini mengandung arti kalimat negatif; dan lafal ayat ini sama dengan lafal A-andzartahum tadi, yaitu dapat dibaca Tahqiq dan Tashil (selain Allah) yakni selain-Nya (sebagai tuhan-tuhan -yang disembah-) maksudnya berhala-berhala (jika Allah Yang Maha Pemurah menghendaki kemudaratan terhadapku, niscaya syafaat mereka tidak memberi manfaat sedikit pun bagi diriku) seperti yang kalian dugakan itu (dan mereka tidak -pula- dapat menyelamatkanku) lafal ayat ini menjadi sifat bagi lafal Aalihatan.

Apakah layak aku menyembah tuhan-tuhan selain Allah yang, jika Allah berkehendak menimpakan keburukan kepadaku, pertolongannya tidak berguna sedikit pun untuk menyelamatkan aku?
