Surah Al Baqarah Ayat 11

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا تُفْسِدُوا۟ فِي ٱلْأَرْضِ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ ﴿سورة البقرة آية ١١﴾.

Chapter (2) sūrat l-baqarah (The Cow)

Sahih International: And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers."

Pickthall: And when it is said unto them: Make not mischief in the earth, they say: We are peacemakers only.

Yusuf Ali: When it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "Why, we only Want to make peace!"

Shakir: And when it is said to them, Do not make mischief in the land, they say: We are but peace-makers.

Muhammad Sarwar: When they are told not to commit corruption in the land, they reply, "We are only reformers".

Mohsin Khan: And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "We are only peacemakers."

Arberry: When it is said to them, 'Do not corruption in the land', they say, 'We are only ones that put things right.'

Dan apabila dikatakan kepada mereka: "Janganlah kamu membuat bencana dan kerosakan di muka bumi", mereka menjawab: " Sesungguhnya kami orang-orang yang hanya membuat kebaikan".
[2:11] Tafsir Jalalayn
(Dan jika dikatakan kepada mereka,) maksudnya kepada orang-orang munafik tadi ("Janganlah kamu membuat kerusakan di muka bumi!") yakni dengan kekafiran dan menyimpang dari keimanan. (Jawab mereka, "Sesungguhnya kami ini berbuat kebaikan.") dan tidak dijumpai pada perbuatan kami hal-hal yang menjurus pada kebinasaan. Maka Allah swt. berfirman sebagai sanggahan atas ucapan mereka itu:

Apabila salah seorang yang telah diberi petunjuk oleh Allah berkata kapada orang-orang munafik, "Janganlah kalian berbuat kerusakan di atas bumi dengan menghalang-halangi orang yang berjuang di jalan Allah, menyebarkan fitnah dan memicu api peperangan," mereka justru mengklaim bahwa diri mereka bersih dari perusakan. Mereka mengatakan, "Sesungguhnya kami adalah orang-orang yang melakukan perbaikan." Itu semua adalah akibat rasa bangga diri mereka yang berlebihan.
