قَالَ فَبِمَآ أَغۡوَيۡتَنِي لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَٰطَكَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ ﴿سورة الأعراف آية ١٦﴾.

Chapter (7) sūrat l-aʿrāf (The Heights)

Sahih International: [Satan] said, "Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path.

Pickthall: He said: Now, because Thou hast sent me astray, verily I shall lurk in ambush for them on Thy Right Path.

Yusuf Ali: He said: "Because thou hast thrown me out of the way, lo! I will lie in wait for them on thy straight way:

Shakir: He said: As Thou hast caused me to remain disappointed I will certainly lie in wait for them in Thy straight path.

Muhammad Sarwar: Then Satan said, "Because you have made me go astray, I shall certainly try to seduce people into straying from the right path.

Mohsin Khan: (Iblis) said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path.

Arberry: Said he, 'Now, for Thy perverting me, I shall surely sit in ambush for them on Thy straight path;

Iblis berkata: "Oleh kerana Engkau (wahai Tuhan) menyebabkan daku tersesat (maka) demi sesungguhnya aku akan mengambil tempat menghalangi mereka (dari menjalani) jalanMu yang lurus;

(Iblis menjawab, "Karena Engkau telah menyesatkan saya) Engkau telah menghukum saya; huruf ba mengandung makna qasam/sumpah dan sebagai jawabnya ialah (saya benar-benar akan menghalang-halangi mereka) yaitu anak-anak Adam (dari jalan Engkau yang lurus) maksudnya dari jalan yang dapat mempertemukan mereka kepada Engkau.

Karena dengki dan iri terhadap Adam, Iblîs berkata, "Karena Engkau telah menetapkan aku dalam kesesatan, aku bersumpah akan menyesatkan keturunan Adam. Akan aku palingkan mereka dari jalan kebenaran dengan menggunakan segala cara.
